So, i know that I love this author and I needed a book with some umphf to it, and this amazing book delivered it to me. I love the "Hunger Games" aspect that is in this book. Megan takes a look at what modern day society would look on the discovery of mages. Of course it would be a little different of course but I believe this one hits it close to home. Take all the old magic people keep them happy and let their kids continue to do magic, even if they suck at it, and the New Magic people can fight for their rights for a spot in society. Kind reminds me also of Roman gladiators too. When you first meet your main characters, no one is happy that they have to challenge the orders they have given to try and get a spot to be a champion. No ones knows what they are going to be doing. They just have to follow instructions. And boy do they. They are tested from the mages on every aspect of themselves to see if they are worthy to be part of their society. Or you can be dampened (yeah i would fight for a spot too). When you have to look past prejudice and work as a team or die, what would you choose. If you knew that your power wasn't good enough, would you still fight to survive or would you just take what you can get? Take a journey, on how this Mage world determines if you are good enough to have your magic, or be stripped of it and find a way to try and exist in the society that you can never be a full part of. Meet Finn and Rocio an unlikely pair that can be just what this world of mages needs. This first installment is just what you need to get you out of your reading funk and back into loving magic characters who fight for what they believe in. You will like the character development as it is so deep but also at a surface level. Join the journey of young women and men fighting for their place in the world.Tags : Amazon.com: Ruthless Magic (Conspiracy of Magic Book 1) eBook: Megan Crewe: Kindle Store, ebook,Megan Crewe,Ruthless Magic (Conspiracy of Magic Book 1),Another World Press,Fiction Fantasy Urban,Juvenile Fiction Fantasy & Magic
Ruthless Magic Conspiracy of Magic Book 1 eBook Megan Crewe Reviews
I had never experienced this authur prior to this book, now I can't get enough !!! About to begin the second book of this series....can't wait to check out all of her others
This book takes off and just keeps accelerating. The story is well thought out and the details and rules of this new magical world hang together well. I found myself caring about the fate of the characters. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Ruthless Magic was a good read, albeit violent and closely parallel to other stories like Maze Runner, Hunger Games, and Divergent. Kids killing kids is not a story line I care for, but I can see how others might like the series.
Brilliantly written, action packed story that will grip you from beginning to end. This tittle fits perfectly as this story has a crescendo of ruthless trails & magic that keep you rooting for the characters, some more than others, til the very end. It’s like the “Hunger Games” with magic, only better.
It is clear that this book has been modelled after Hunger games. It openly volunteers as a tribute. What is different here is not the presence of magic. It is this reality quality a - la Atwood. The development of events is on the background of the 9/11, for instance. It is very realistic in terms of politics and treatment of the minorities. The book, the action is solid and has its measure of originality. But I like this author and I am dissappointed that she has decided to write a good, solid but tribute like book with a torture fest tendencies.
Overall rating 4.8
A gripping tale of epic proportions, this book had me willingly cringing! It’s a wondrous storyline, where I felt every character held equal importance. A tale of survival and challenge, testing each characters’ morality as well as humanity. This fantastical world is immersed in magic and gives the reader a unique look at the makeup and driving force of magic as well. A truly one of a kind read, be prepared to open up sufficient time to reach the conclusion, for it is a guarantee that you will not want to put it down! Most excellent!
I really liked parts of this book, the parts that is in it was well crafted and engaging ... Certainly a 4 in my grading scale. The world-building have potential and the combination of The Hunger Game and Harry Potter certainly has its unique qualities.
Buuuut, and it is always a but, the focus of the book is one event, and the revelations and insights of that event would have been better if I as a reader had more context of the world. World shattering is not so shattering if there isn't a world to shatter first! And there are a worrisome plot hole here, it may be a plot point, but as it is completely unaddressed it feels more like a plot hole big enough to drive a bus through.
And it is borderline grimdark ... I'm really vacillating about picking up the next book or not.
